Police have revealed the reason why armed cops and a police helicopter swarmed a busy Glasgow area today.

The force says specialist officers and a helicopter were deployed in the West End of the city this afternoon (Wednesday, August 14) as part of an ongoing operation.

Originally, cops were in Kelso Street at around 2pm and later in Hawick Street, Knightswood, and Glasgow Road in Clydebank at around 5pm.

Originally, one armed officer was seen on a first-floor balcony of a property, whilst others were on the street.

After that, several plain-clothed coppers entered the premises on the street.

Following being pictured at the property, armed officers blue-lighted away from the scene shortly after 5pm, while other officers remained in the area.

Now, in a statement, police have said no arrests have been made as part of the investigation.

However, the force has said there will be a continued police presence in the area and there is no risk to the wider public.

The nature of the investigation was not revealed.
