A MAN was arrested after driving with white powder residue on his face.

William Wallace, 42, was stopped by police in a state of obvious intoxication on July 1, 2023, on Easterhouse Road in the East End.

Cops noted that his eyes were glazed, his pupils were dilated and his speech was slow. There was also white powder residue on his face.

They approached and as he spoke to them, they noted a strong smell of cannabis.

Wallace, of Bellshill, North Lanarkshire, was arrested and taken to Coatbridge police station, where he provided a blood sample for tests and was deemed unfit to drive.

He appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court this week, after pleading guilty to the offence and admitting to having Pregabalin and Bromazolam, both class C drugs, in his possession.

His lawyer said: "It’s clear that he suffers from addiction and mental health issues.

"At that time, he was associating with negative peer groups. Also, he was suffering from low self-esteem.

"He wasn’t valuing his own life or others’ when he decided to drive in that condition.

"It appears he is making progress. He has left that peer group and referred himself to addiction services and he seems to be engaging with them.

"He has an unenviable record. He has shown that he can stop offending and he requires support.

"He is fully aware that a long driving disqualification will follow."

Sheriff Collette Gallagher said: "I can see that you have an understanding of how serious this matter is and of the consequences.

"It’s a very serious charge and it is made even more serious because of your long record. You were reckless.

"I wish you all the best in your recovery, I know it’s not an easy thing to do."

Wallace was sentenced to two years of supervision and ordered to engage with addiction services.

He was also tagged for 144 days, requiring him to stay at home between 7pm and 7am.

He was disqualified from driving for three years.
