Glasgow City Council caught a fly-tipper after watching a 'hotspot' in the city.

Officers from the public body say they were keeping an eye on a specific area in Glasgow's Southside that has been plighted by fly-tipping.

After identifying the person responsible, Public Health slapped them with a £500 fine.

The local authority is urging people to report instances of fly-tipping for them to investigate.

A spokesperson said: "Public Health have issued a £500 fine to a member of the public this week for fly-tipping in their own community - a costly crime for both the person responsible and the public purse to clear it.

"Officers have been monitoring the fly-tipping hot spot in the south of the city which has resulted in a person being identified and issued a fixed penalty notice for dumping their waste.

"Let's work together to rid our communities of this environmental crime and keep reporting fly-tipping to us - including any information on the culprit(s)- and we will investigate at www.glasgow.gov.uk/flytipping."
