The latest additions to the Kirkintilloch Canal Festival have been announced from archery sessions to BMX jumps and beyond.

The Sunday funday on September 1 from 12pm to 5pm will offer family activities at locations around the town including Southbank Marina, Kirkintilloch Baptist Church, Cowgate, Barleybank, Regent Gardens, and the Kirkintilloch Police Station grounds.

Professional caricaturist Edd Travers will offer humorous portraits while a silent walking disco will enable participants to groove along to a tour of the town with the Disco Dude.

A Teddy Bear Parachute at St Mary's Parish Church will give children the chance to send their favourite teddy on a thrilling plunge from the church tower (certificate included).

Westermains Bowling Club will offer the chance to try bowls while Kirkintilloch Male Voice Choir will also make an appearance.

Free park and ride services are available throughout the Sunday afternoon to and from Lenzie Station for those arriving by train, and to and from Broomhill Depot (Kilsyth Road, Kirkintilloch).

Meanwhile, Create ED, in Cowgate, is inviting people to add to a special Canal Festival Postcard Wall, with prizes on offer.

The deadline for entries is August 24, and more information is available on the festival website.

A free evening concert, complete with fireworks display, will take place at Southbank Marina from 5pm to 10pm on Saturday, August 31, featuring the likes of HavanaBlonde, The Mini Guns, Greg Friel, and compere Greg Summers.

The Spirit of Alba Festival will take place in Kirkintilloch Town Hall, celebrating spirits and craft beverages while boat trips on the Forth and Clyde Canal will take place on the Saturday and Sunday of the festival.

There will also be boat trips in the days leading up to the main festival, with Sail and Stories on Monday, August 26, the Bubbles and Breakfast Cruise on Wednesday, August 28, and a Spirit of Alba Whisky Tasting Session taking place on Friday, August 30.

Councillor Gordan Low, leader of East Dunbartonshire Council, said: "This year's packed programme continues to grow as we get closer and closer to the main weekend.

"We're focused on providing a wide variety of attractions for people of all ages, with an emphasis on free fun where possible."
