New on-street bin hubs are set to be installed in several Glasgow areas.
These hubs capture a range of plastic and metal containers alongside a separate bin for paper and cards.
The aim is to improve recycling rates from flats.
The 'twin stream' approach has been successful in three areas where 144 hubs were piloted including Pollokshields, Haghill, and Anderston.
Food waste collections were also reintroduced in these areas.
With the council committing £7.2 million in this year’s budget to support the rollout of these on-street bin hubs, the next communities to benefit from the 'twin stream' approach have been identified.
These are Cessnock, Govan, Craigton, and Cardonald with installation of the hubs in Cessnock set to begin next month.
Councillor Ruairi Kelly, city convener for neighbourhood services and assets, said: "There’s been a very promising response to the introduction of on-street bin hubs in the pilot areas with the return on recycling showing significant improvement.
"Improving the level of recycling recovered from flatted properties in Glasgow has long proved to be a stubborn challenge.
"Our assessments indicated on-street bin hubs that take an expanded range of materials were the best option for boosting recycling from flats and the initial results of our pilot are proving this to be correct."
The £7.2 million investment will procure 4,800 1280-litre bins and 1,200 units to house these bins.
More investment will be needed to ensure all properties receive a twin stream recycling service.
Residents will be informed in advance when they will receive the new recycling service and how it operates.
