Thousands of visitors flocked to Celtic Park which hosted a special event for the first time.

The Parkhead stadium was the choice of venue for the Feis Rutai Thir Chonaill, an annual Irish Dancing Competition run by the Boyle and McQuade Schools of Irish Dancing.

Around 700 dancers from across Britain and Ireland took part in the two-day competition on Saturday, August 24 and Sunday, August 25 competing for silverware.

Meanwhile, around 2000 visitors gathered in Glasgow's East End to watch the festivities.

It is the first time the schools have chosen Celtic Park for their competition, and it is believed to be the first time an Irish dancing event has been held there.

Organiser Donna Marie Boyle, from the Boyle School of Irish Dancing, said: “We are delighted to host our annual competition Feis Rutai Thir Chonaill at Celtic Football Club where we had had a busy weekend of dancing and due to the location and prestige of running our competition here.

“We've had world-class dancers coming from across Scotland, England and travelling as far as Ireland as well as competitors coming to compete in our grade competitions as they advance in their journey of dance.

"We are delighted to give all the dancers and their supporters the magnificent backdrop of Celtic Park as a new venue, and I believe this is the first time that an Irish Dancing competition has been hosted here.

"It's been a weekend of wonderful dancing for our community of dance.”
