An easyJet flight was forced to return to Glasgow Airport amid an emergency.

We reported how police say they were called to an incident involving an aircraft on Friday, August 23.

The force was alerted to the situation shortly after 7pm.

Now, easyJet has said its flight EZY3163 from Glasgow to Faro in Portugal had to return to the city after take-off due to a suspected technical issue.

The airline said the plane landed normally and engineers attended the aircraft as well as 999 crews as a routine and precautionary measure.

All passengers onboard disembarked into the terminal and the flight was delayed overnight.

Following the incident, easyJet has apologised for any 'inconvenience' caused by the problem.

On top of the police, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the Scottish Ambulance Service also attended the incident.

Luckily, cops revealed the plane managed to land safely and no one was injured during the incident.

In a clip posted on social media, emergency crews - including police and ambulance teams - could be seen arriving at the airport.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 7.05pm on Friday, August 23, 2024, police received a report of an emergency on a flight due to land at Glasgow Airport.

"The plane landed safely and there were no reports of injuries.”

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were alerted at 7.09pm on Friday, August 23, to assist partners at Glasgow Airport, Paisley, Renfrewshire.

"Operations control mobilised three fire appliances and a high-reach appliance to the scene as a precaution.

"The plane landed safely and there were no casualties.

"Crews left after ensuring the area was made safe."

A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service added: “We received a call at 7.12pm on Friday, August 23, to attend an incident at Glasgow Airport.

"We dispatched one ambulance and two special response operations teams (SORT) to the scene.”

Additionally, an easyJet spokesperson added: “We can confirm that flight EZY3163 from Glasgow to Faro on 23 August returned to Glasgow after take-off due to a suspected technical issue.

"The flight landed normally and engineers attended the aircraft as well as emergency services as a routine and precautionary measure only.”

“All passengers disembarked into the terminal and the flight was delayed overnight to allow passengers to continue their journey to Faro the next day.

" We are sorry for any inconvenience this will have caused and did all we could to minimise the impact of the disruption, providing hotel accommodation and meals for those who required them.

"The safety of our customers and crew is easyJet's highest priority and easyJet operates its fleet of aircraft in strict compliance with all manufacturers’ guidelines.”
