A Glasgow restaurant has been put up for sale less than one year after opening.

Tiki bar-inspired eatery Rum Bongo on Byres Road is on the market for offers over £90,000.

It comes after the 'hula hut' venue, known for its tropical cocktails and jerk chicken, opened in the West End in October 2023.

The venue was refurbished to a 'high standard' at the time and enjoys busy trade due to its location on a busy street.

A new operator taking over will be able to take advantage of a lease with over 18 years remaining, a 260 licence capacity and a 3am license.

The restaurant has over 100 covers and features a fully-fitted kitchen.

The listing by Smith & Clough reads: "Byres Road is a vibrant hub of food and drink activity, heavily influenced by the nearby University of Glasgow.

"The student population not only supports a wide variety of establishments but also drives the evolution of the area’s culinary landscape, making it one of the most dynamic parts of Glasgow.

"The area’s food and drink sector thrives on its diversity, with options that include traditional Scottish fare, Mediterranean dishes, Asian cuisine, and vegan-friendly spots. This variety reflects the cosmopolitan nature of the local community and the preferences of the student population."

Rum Bongo is the latest in a number of West End hospitality venues to go on the market.

We previously reported that Cafe Dougalli on Hyndland Road was put up for sale after closing down in March this year.

Meanwhile, ex-private chef has put his Byres Road deli La Pastina on the market.
