A killer was rushed to hospital after an incident in Low Moss prison.

Christopher Hughes was brutally attacked in the exercise yard at the Bishopbriggs jail last month, the Scottish Sun reports.

Insiders say the attack came as part of a power struggle in the institution, which is home to some of the country's most violent convicts.

The 35-year-old was caged for gunning down Dutch crime figure Martin Kok in the Netherlands on December 8, 2016.

A source told The Scottish Sun: “Hughes was assaulted in the exercise yard.

“He was beaten to the point where he needed to be blue-lighted to the hospital. It was carnage.

“The attack was ordered by another high-level con.

“Low Moss is facing a power struggle between some of the most notorious inmates.

“It’s an intense battle for power with rivals fighting to be top dog."

Hughes was caught on CCTV fleeing the scene after Kok was gunned down and was later snared in Turin, Italy, where he was using a fake Latvian ID.

He was told in April 2022 at the High Court in Stirling that he must serve at least 25 years of his life sentence before he is eligible for release on licence.

The source added: "There are so many feared gangsters inside now that it’s inevitable that tensions rise and someone will try to be the main man.”

A Police Scotland spokesman said" “Enquiries are ongoing following a report that a 35-year-old man was injured within Low Moss Prison, Bishopbriggs.”

A Scottish Prison Service spokesperson told the paper: “We don’t comment on individuals.”
