Locals have been left gutted after an iconic Glasgow nightclub has revealed it will be closing down after 26 years.

We reported how The Shed - which is located on Langside Avenue in the Southside - announced it will host its final ever event on Saturday, September 14, 2024.

Since opening in 1998, the incredibly loved cornerstone of Glasgow's nightlife in Shawlands has welcomed party-goers and music lovers for almost three decades.

However, its roots in the community stretch back much further, with the venue originally being established in 1920 as Marlborough House.

For over a century, the building played host to a wide range of personal and community celebrations including weddings, birthday parties, and other milestone events.

After bosses of the club announced its shock closure on Thursday, August 29, punters of the beloved venue have expressed their sadness at the news on social media.

One gutted local cried: "Glasgow's best club. Sad times indeed."

Another chimed: "The old Marlborough. Sad times indeed.

"Many happy memories there back in the day."

A third added: Omg, end of an era.

"Some of the best times of our lives in there."

A fourth said: "Sad. It was an amazing place even as the Malborough Shawlands."

Meanwhile, a fifth claimed: "Another slice of Glasgow thrown in the dump."

Revealing the nightclub's closure, Michele Pagliocca, owner of The Shed, said the decision was 'incredibly difficult'.

He said: "The decision to close has been incredibly difficult, but it’s the right time for us to say goodbye to this chapter of 26 Langside Avenue.

"We are so grateful to the incredible community that has supported us over the years.

"From our regular patrons to those who visited for a one-off night, everyone has played a part in making The Shed what it is.

"It’s bittersweet, but it’s also a time to celebrate all we’ve achieved together."
