A man kicked a cop in the genital area during a violent struggle in Glasgow.

Officers were called to Nether Auldhouse Road in Pollokshields after a taxi driver was concerned about a customer's behaviour.

Mohammed Waqas, who was sitting in the back of the vehicle, was clearly under the influence, and admitted having taken cocaine and cannabis.

He was told to exit the taxi and his dad was called to collect him.

Hearing this, he became aggressive and lashed out, trying to strike the officers.

They grabbed his hands, restrained and arrested him.

He kicked the right leg and genital area of a cop.

Fast straps were applied as the 26-year-old continued to struggle violently.

He was shouting and screaming, so more police were called to help.

Waqas was placed in a cell van and taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. He was not cautioned and charged due to his behaviour.

He appeared in the dock at Glasgow Sheriff Court this week after he pleaded guilty to aggressive behaviour and assault.

His lawyer said: "The report talks about his mental health issues. He abuses drugs.

"It’s deplorable conduct. He does not normally do this.

"This is a young man who would benefit from intervention."

Sheriff Mary Shields sentenced Waqas to 12 months of supervision and 150 hours of unpaid work.
