An easyJet flight has been forced to make an emergency landing at Glasgow Airport amid an issue.

The airline's flight EZY2259 was diverted to the city's airport shortly after taking off from Manchester in England at around 6.25am this morning.

According to the firm's flight status checker online, the aircraft landed in Glasgow at around 8.15am due to a 'passenger welfare issue'.

After the flight had landed, easyJet revealed it was diverted due to a passenger requiring urgent medical attention.

It left Manchester to head to Reykjavik in Iceland. Following being diverted earlier today, the flight has since continued its original journey after the issue.

The airline's flight status checker said: "We're very sorry that your flight has now been diverted.

"This is due to a passenger welfare issue.

"The disruption to your flight is outside of our control and is considered to be an extraordinary circumstance."

A spokesperson for easyJet said: "We can confirm that flight EZY2259 from Manchester to Keflavik on September 5 was required to divert to Glasgow due to a passenger onboard requiring urgent medical attention. 

“The passenger was met in Glasgow by medical services and the flight is set to continue to Keflavik later this morning.

" The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is always easyJet’s highest priority.”
