Unite has confirmed that around 60 Allied Bakeries drivers have 'overwhelmingly' backed an 'inflation-beating pay rise'.
The two-year pay deal - which has been secured by the union - will see the heavy goods vehicle (HGV) drivers based at Glasgow's Sighthill depot receiving a pay increase worth at least eight and a half per cent.
The pay rise will come into effect from August 1 with the first year amounting to a five per cent increase, and a three and a half per cent increase in the second year (August 2025 to August 2026).
Meanwhile, the deal was supported by 92 per cent of Unite’s membership, and it will also mean that due to rota changes drivers in alternative years will get an extra day’s holiday on January 2.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “The Allied Bakeries deal will provide a timely pay increase and extra security for Allied Bakeries HGV drivers. Unite is continuing to deliver better jobs, pay and conditions for our driver membership.”
Andrew Brown, Unite industrial officer, added: “The inflation-beating pay increase for HGV drivers based at Allied Bakeries Sighthill depot is a good deal which received the overwhelming support of our membership.
“It is clear that if drivers in Scotland want to secure better pay and conditions then they should join Unite and ensure their colleagues join as well.”
