Construction has begun on 179 homes near Glasgow after the site was 'rescued' from limbo.

Independent developer Dundas Estates stepped in to save the project in Bishopton after Stewart Milne went into administration.

We previously reported that the company collapsed in January, resulting in around 217 jobs lost.

Now since acquiring the site earlier in the summer, Dundas is commencing work on fulfilling a promise to deliver quality housing to the area.

A new show home is coming soon for buyers to view ahead of the unveiling of 179 three to six-bedroom homes in a range of styles.

Of these, 62 will be branded as 'affordable' housing.

Dundas is also contributing to the development of a community woodland park, recreational spaces, and other community amenities, including a new health centre and primary school.

The residential area will also boast good transport links to Glasgow and the nearby motorway network.

Craig Fairfoull, who is the sales and marketing director at Dundas, said: “The site represents a fresh start and a unique opportunity to create a vibrant new community that offers something for everyone.

“We have made this progress without any significant issues on-site, which is a positive indicator of the smooth journey ahead. We look forward to welcoming our first residents and seeing this new community come to life.”

We previously reported that Dundas plans to build house types that are similar in style and specification to Stewart Milne, including terraced, semi-detached and larger detached homes.

Stewart Milne Group was founded in 1975 and has around 35 active sale sites across the country with offices in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow among other UK bases.

The Scottish branches revealed on their website in January that they would cease trading with immediate effect, adding that no further construction is being completed.
