A KILLER who stabbed a man to death after a row has been jailed for nine years.

Dylan Shaw was today found guilty of the culpable homicide of Alexander Allan following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

The 31-year-old fatally knifed Mr Allan in the chest at the victim's home in Ivanhoe, East Kilbride in Lanarkshire, on February 7, 2023.

Shaw then got rid of the blade in the town's Calderglen Country Park after the attack on the 43-year-old.

The thug had originally faced a murder accusation before being convicted of the reduced charge.

Jurors heard how the men had a fight at Mr Allan's home and that the victim struck Shaw with a dumbbell.

Shaw claimed he had gone there as Mr Allan had allegedly made remarks about him.

The killer went on to strike the man with a blade he pulled from his tracksuit bottoms.

The weapon is thought to have been a kitchen knife.

The court heard Shaw warned a relative of the victim - who was also there - not to call police.

Shaw later told a man he had "done something", that Mr Allan was dead, but that he had "no choice".

However, on later being quizzed by police, the killer initially claimed he had been at the home on the day of the crime and did not know his victim.

He went on to admit striking Mr Allan after he was attacked, but "had not looked where he had stabbed him".

Shaw insisted the victim's relative he was said to have then threatened was "full of s***e".

In his closing speech to jurors, prosecutor Alex Sutherland stated Shaw had taken a weapon with him and that no one had "forced" him to go to see Mr Allan.

He went on: "He went there with his eyes wide open knowing that there would be a confrontation.

"He did not then phone for help. He ran and disposed of the knife."

Shaw had claimed he was acting in self-defence.

Jurors found him guilty of culpable homicide on the basis of provocation.

After the verdict, it emerged Shaw had already had a string of convictions for drugs, violence, wilful fire-raising and robbery.

Sentencing, judge Lord Ericht told him: "In this case, the single stab wound brought about Mr Allan's tragic death."
