A former Tesco store in Glasgow is set to be turned into the city's 'biggest Asian supermarket'.

The company was bidding to take over the unit, creating a supermarket, a food court, and a unique event space.

Papers also state it would provide a "harmonious fusion of Asian culture and Scottish products".

Plans previously said the supermarket would be a 4,800 square metre space, selling chilled and frozen food and ingredients, including in bulk.

Meanwhile, the hospitality area in the store will be made up of 20 food stalls and two restaurants, seating up to 200 people.

A distribution centre was also outlined in the submission, which would utilise the existing service yard and loading bay and house a maximum of 50 vehicles.

Now, council bosses have approved the plans for the new store.

The local authority granted the application subject to conditions on Thursday, August 29, 2024.

The approval document said: "The proposal was considered to be in accordance with the Development Plan and there were no material considerations which outweighed the proposal's accordance with the Development Plan."
