Emergency crews are still searching for a man who possibly entered the River Clyde over 24 hours ago. 

Police received a report of concern for a man who may have entered the water near Bothwell Road in Hamilton at around 2.10am on Wednesday, September 11.

We previously reported that officers had attended and no one was traced.

However, the force has issued a statement confirming that they are still carrying out investigations into the incident.

More searches have since been carried out with the aid of specialist resources and CCTV is being scoured in the hope of finding and identifying the man. 

Cops are urging anyone who may have seen something to come forward, as their information may prove vital to finding out what happened. 

Inspector Mark Chivers said: “At this time we ask anyone who was in the area and may have witnessed anything to come forward. We would also be keen to hear from any motorists who may have been driving past around that time and have dashcam footage from the area.

“Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident 0270 of 11 September, 2024.”

An HM Coastguard spokesperson added: “At around 2.45am this morning (Wednesday, September 11), HM Coastguard assisted Police Scotland with an incident at Bothwell in Glasgow.

"The HM Coastguard Rescue Helicopter was called, alongside the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 2.14am on Wednesday, September 11, to an incident on Bothwell Road, Hamilton.

“Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances and water rescue team to the scene, where firefighters assisted emergency service partners before leaving the scene.”
