Construction of a 'much-needed affordable' housing development in Kirkintilloch is underway.

McTaggart Construction has revealed they have started work on building new homes in the East Dunbartonshire town.

The 41-unit development at Fauldhead, near Kirkintilloch High School, will deliver 28 flats and 13 terrace houses.

The new properties will be owned and managed by Hillhead Housing Association.

As part of the project, the community-based housing association are being supported by C~urb - who are acting as the 'development agents'.

Meanwhile, the new homes are being partly funded by the Scottish Government via an Allia charitable bond.

The construction of the development is expected to be complete by Autumn 2025.

John Jamieson, chair of Hillhead Housing Association, added: “We’re delighted that the project is now on site and pleased to be working with McTaggart on this very attractive development in a great location.  

“Hillhead Housing Association will celebrate its 21st anniversary next year and we are looking forward to marking that milestone with the provision of new high-quality homes and the life-changing impact that they bring.” 

The housing association currently provides 830 homes in Hillhead & Braes O’Yetts and this project will be a welcome addition to their housing stock at a time of high demand for socially rented homes.

The Fauldhead site is Hillhead’s first development project for five years.

Meanwhile, as part of the project’s wider community benefit initiatives, McTaggart will work with school pupils in Kirkintilloch to support them with starting a career in the house building industry.
