A BARRHEAD school has been praised by inspectors who described pupils as “highly motivated to learn and achieve.”
The Education Scotland team described children at Cross Arthurlie Primary as “polite, confident, articulate” and “proud of their school and demonstrate the school values very well.”
Headteacher Fiona MacDonald is over the moon that pupils have received such high praise in the report.
“We are delighted that the inspectors recognised the kindness, respect and confidence of our children,” she said.
“This is only possible through the hard work of staff and support we receive from our families, which creates a truly caring community of learners.
“We will continue to develop our approaches to ensure we build on the good practice highlighted in the report as we focus on providing excellent experiences to all our young people."

The inspectors also praised the East Renfrewshire school’s “very effective teamwork” between senior leaders and teachers and added: “They have worked together very successfully to develop high-quality, creative and engaging approaches to learning and teaching.”
The “robust approach” developed by senior leaders to monitor and track children’s progress in literacy and numeracy was also noted in the report which continued: “This helps staff to maximise children’s progress and is helping children to attain very well.
“The wide variety of motivating contexts for children to achieve and experience success… is helping them to develop important skills for learning, life and work.”
Inspectors advised the school should continue to “support children to use feedback to set and evaluate their own targets in learning” and “develop approaches to monitor the progress of children’s learning across all curricular areas.”
