Emergency teams came to the rescue of a person in the River Clyde at the weekend.

The person entered the water on Saturday evening and soon got into difficulty sparking a 999 response. 

Officers deployed a police helicopter which located the person in the darkness.

They then helped the Coastguard and officers on the ground reach the location to save the person.

A spokesperson said: "The Police Helicopter was involved in a multi-agency rescue last night when a person entered the River Clyde and got into difficulties.

"The crew was able to locate the person in the darkness and assisted in guiding HM Coastguard and Police Scotland Inverclyde to the location. #Teamwork."

 

A spokesperson for the Coastguard said: "A man reported to be in difficulty in the water at Langbank was recovered safely to shore by the RNLI inshore lifeboat from Helensburgh.

"The alarm was raised at about 10.40pm on September 21. The HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Prestwick was sent as well as Greenock and Helensburgh Coastguard Rescue Teams.

"The man was passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service. Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire Service also attended."
