More details have emerged about the demolition of high-rise flats in the city's Southside.
New Gorbals Housing Association (NGHA) has confirmed today that Caledonia Road flats are being prepared for demolition before they will be blown down by explosives in the summer of 2025.
NGHA also added that they have appointed Dem-Master as the contractor of the project involving the two high-rise blocks of flats.
Caledonia Road flats in Glasgow's Gorbals to be demolished
READ NEXT:Simon Metcalfe, head of development at NGHA told the Glasgow Times: "Following New Gorbals Housing Association’s appointment of Dem-Master as contractor, the Caledonia Road tower blocks in Gorbals are currently being prepared for demolition.
"The blocks will be blown down by controlled use of explosives in the summer of 2025."
He went on to say that following the demolition, clearance works will begin and the site will be redeveloped into 150 new houses for social rent.
He also added that there will be a significant exclusion zone around the blocks on the day of demolition and spectators are not encouraged.
Construction crews were seen moving into the site earlier this week.
Workers were spotted removing parts of the building and fencing was put around the flats.
The demolition comes after the flats were found to be unsafe last July, and it was deemed unaffordable and unsustainable to modernise them.
The Glasgow Times previously reported that residents of the high-rise block were first informed of the possible tear-down back in 2020.
Fraser Stewart, chief executive of NGHA, told the Glasgow Times last year that the vast majority of residents have been rehomed locally, with many moving to newly built homes funded by the Scottish Government.
