A man who had an 11cm knife in his bag was "making food", his lawyer said.
Segun Aluko appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court last week after he pleaded guilty to being in possession of the weapon and resisting arrest.
Officers were on Hyndland Street in Glasgow's West End at 7.20pm on May 4, 2024, for an unrelated matter and approached Aluko.
They searched him and started applying handcuffs. After one of his hands was handcuffed, he tried to pull away from cops.
He took hold of the clothing of one police officer, causing bruising.
Aluko, of Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire, continued to shout and swear as additional cops arrived to help.
The 41-year-old was searched and a kitchen knife with an 11cm blade was found in his bag.
He was arrested and taken to Govan police station.

At the court hearing, Aluko's lawyer said: "The knife was in a gym bag, in his trainer. There were also vitamins and supplements.
"He was meeting his daughter for lunch and his position is that he was making food, that is how the knife ended up there."
The solicitor explained that before the incident, Aluko suffered a serious injury to his leg, leaving him to be housebound for three months.
This offence took place two to three days after he was allowed outside.
He added: "He was searched by the police and was concerned that they would be a bit rougher than usual. He was still fragile.
"He acted out of fear of injury to his leg again.
"He understands he needs to be punished and he will comply."
Sheriff Collette Gallagher sentenced Aluko to 225 hours of unpaid work, to be completed within a year.
