Two men have been jailed after they were caught at Glasgow Airport trying to smuggle drugs from Dubai.
Vincent Chiamingsan, 31, and Ng Zhan, 33, attempted to ferry a haul of cannabis inside two black suitcases.
Immigration officials at Glasgow became suspicious of the pair carrying the luggage and they were stopped by Border Force staff.
The cases were checked in at Dubai Airport, as both men had travelled from Thailand to Scotland via Dubai.
Zhan initially denied the bag belonged to him, then later claimed someone had given it to him in Dubai and that he was unaware of what was inside it.
A search of both cases revealed the 69 vacuum-sealed bags of cannabis which specialist officers valued as having a street value of £343,080.
Both men were sentenced at Paisley Sheriff Court to 20 months in prison each after admitting charges of drug trafficking in April this year.
The pair, who are both from Malaysia, have now been jailed for total of three years and four months.
Sineidin Corrins, deputy procurator fiscal for specialist casework at the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS), said: “These men failed in their attempt to import a significant quantity of drugs into Scotland.
“Justice has been served and these individuals are now serving prison sentences.
“I hope that these convictions and the sentences send a strong message to others involved in this kind of drug-trafficking behaviour and demonstrates the ability of police and prosecutors to investigate, prepare and prosecute crime of this nature.”
