A MAN who was caught with drugs said he was taking it to a friend's Christmas party.

Suleyman Jallow was stopped by officers at 8.45pm on December 24, 2022, on St Peter's Street in North Glasgow.

When he spotted the officers, he lifted his hands near his underwear and made off.

Cops recognised him from earlier that day when he ran away from them, so they gave chase.

When they caught up with him, Jallow was handcuffed and searched.

A clear bag was recovered with 21 wraps of substance, which later turned out to be crack cocaine.

Police also found £485 in cash, a burner phone and an iPhone.

The 46-year-old was arrested, charged and taken to the police station.

Jallow appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court this week after he pleaded guilty to having the drug with intent to supply and attempting to discard an item and to pervert the course of justice.

The court heard that in the clear bag, there were 18 smaller bags containing 0.5grams of cocaine each and three bags with 0.2g of drugs.

Sheriff Mark McGuire asked the procurator fiscal depute about the value.

She replied that she did not have that information but she agreed that it was noted to be excessive for personal use.

The Crown put forward a motion for fortitude, which would mean Jarrow would not get back the cash that was found on him.

Sheriff McGuire remarked: "He is insisting this is a social supply."

Jarrow's lawyer confirmed: "It is his position. He reported he was asked by his friends to bring it to a Christmas party.

"He was walking to the train station to the party when he was stopped."

The sheriff said: "He said he was not a drug dealer but he was a patsy that went out to get the drugs."

The procurator fiscal disputed this and Jarrow's solicitor asked the court to set a proof of mitigation.

The sheriff explained to Jarrow: "Your position of these drugs was that they were for social supply.

"The prosecution does not accept that. Your solicitor asked for a proper mitigation. That will take place on November 13, 2024.

"Sentence will be deferred until then. The court notes the Crown‘s motion for forfeiture and your solicitor’s motion."
