A Glasgow restaurant has announced its permanent closure with a 'heavy heart'.

Belter Bento was located on Duke Street in the city's East End and served Japanese cuisine including sushi, curries, ramen, bao buns, and - of course - bento boxes.

The eatery was previously closed on a temporary basis while their chef underwent surgery, but staff have now said that they were planning to shut for good on October 5.

However, they added that 'given the circumstances', they have closed sooner than planned.

A spokesperson said: "Hey everyone, it's with a heavy heart that we announce the permanent closure of Belter Bento.

"While our chef is still recovering, we had planned to close permanently on the 5th of October. Given the circumstances, we've decided to expedite this closure.

"We want to thank all of you for your incredible support over the years. It's been an amazing journey, and we're so grateful for the memories we've made together.

"We'll miss seeing your smiling faces and hearing your laughter. Thank you for being a part of our story. Ming."

One customer said: "So sorry to hear this, had planned to pop over this week before you closed. Hopefully, the recovery goes well, I will be craving your sushi forever now."

It comes after we reported that two Glasgow city centre restaurants were closing down.

After 10 years of serving steaks to the people of Glasgow, Sauchiehall Street spot Steak & Cherry will shut its doors later this month.

Meanwhile, after just over a month in operation, Yum Yum Chicken announced it was closing for now due to maintenance issues.

We also reported that cocktail bar Somewhere by Nico on Byres Road will stop serving food in a bid to 'realign' its focus on making the experience solely about creating inventive cocktails.
