A Glasgow man punched a train passenger in the face until he bled.

Stephen Cook and his wife got off the train at Glasgow Central from Ayrshire on October 29, 2023.

They exited at the Gordon Street entrance.

As they were standing there, David Kinmond approached them and started talking to the couple.

He said: “I know why you are angry - because you missed your train.”

When the conversation finished, an altercation took place.

Mr Cook pushed Kinmond lightly to get him away.

In return, Kinmond, 37, punched him in the face with his right fist.

He grabbed Mr Cook’s walking stick and as the two struggled, they both fell to the ground.

Mr Cook was trying to get back on his feet but Kinmond pushed him back and sat on top of him, continuing to punch him.

This was seen by members of the public and police nearby were called.

When they arrived, they saw Mr Cook had a visible bump on his head and was bleeding from the mouth.

Kinmond was cautioned and arrested. He was taken to Cathcart station while CCTV was reviewed.

The Cowcaddens resident appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court after he pleaded guilty to the assault.

At the hearing, Sheriff Anna Reid asked: "How old was the complainer?"

The procurator fiscal depute replied: "38."

Kinmond's lawyer said: "There is a serious gap between his last convictions and this. His circumstances changed, and he has his own tenancy.

"He appears genuinely remorseful. Before this happened, he had taken some street Valium.

"I would ask you not to incarcerate this man. He would lose his tenancy."

The sheriff told Kinmond: "This must have been a very unpleasant incident for the complainer. But I see your life has changed for the better."

He was sentenced to 12 months of supervision and was tagged for 16 weeks.

He will be required to stay at his home between 7pm and 7am each day.
