Motorists are to be affected for three weekends as a section of a busy motorway will close.

The Eastbound on-slip at Junction 6 (Newhouse) of the M8 will be closed between October 11 to 14, 18 to  21 and 25 to 28.

The M8 will also be reduced to a single lane in each direction over the affected weekends.

The works - which will take place between 8.30pm on each Friday until 6am on each Monday - is to allow for the refurbishment and re-waterproofing of the deck on Longacre Bridge, which carries the motorway over Craigens Road between Junctions 5 and 6.

Traffic will be managed under a contraflow system with traffic directed to follow the A73 southbound, the B7066 eastbound and the B7057 northbound, to join the M8 at Junction 5 Shotts Interchange.

The work will be carried out by Transport Scotland’s operating company, BEAR Scotland.

David Bishop, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “This project is essential to ensuring that this motorway structure continues to provide a safe and reliable service for years to come.

“We thank motorists for their patience and understanding and recommend that they check the latest travel updates, plan ahead and allow extra travel time for their journeys during these works.”
