Stars of the BBC's Gladiators will be at this year's AJ Bell Junior and Mini Great Scottish Run in Glasgow.

The sold-out event, which takes place on October 5, will see the participation of 1,250 children and their families.

Sabre and Apollo will be the official race starters for the Super Saturday events.

The return of the hit show in January has created a new generation of Gladiator fans, many of whom will be participating in the 'Finding Your Superpower' themed event.

Scottish-born Sabre, also known as Sheli McCoy, and Apollo, known as Alex Gray, said: “We’re delighted to be involved in Scotland’s biggest kids running event at the AJ Bell Junior and Mini Great Scottish Run this Saturday.

"Fostering a love for sports and staying active is at the heart of our mission and something we deeply care about.

"It will be a true joy to see so many young athletes enjoying grassroots sports.

"We’ll be on hand to high-five the runners and cheer them across the finish line – we can’t wait to see you there."

The event is part of Scotland's biggest weekend of running and includes three races: the Toddler Dash, the Mini race, and the Junior sprint.

In addition to earning a finisher medal, participants and their families will have the chance to meet Sabre and Apollo.

The Gladiator stars will also be at the start line for the Mascot Race, where Tyney the Tortoise will compete for first place.

Double Olympian and 2010 European 10,000m silver medallist Chris Thompson will also be at the event, providing coaching commentary to the children before taking on the 10km race the next day.
