The final phase of the 20-year Collegelands masterplan has taken a step forward.

A planning application has officially been submitted for the creation of student housing, flats, an arts hub, parking spaces and more.

Situated in Calton, in the East End of Glasgow, the development would create "a new district within a city centre extension comprising mixed uses, such as offices, hotels, residential, retail etc".

According to the proposal, the last phase of the masterplan would include a 591-bed student housing and 147 built-to-rent flats.

If approved, the scheme will also include a two-acre park and an arts facility for disabled and disadvantaged people.

In March, we reported that a proposal of application notice was lodged with the council by Glasgow Enlightenment Limited, a joint venture between Dawn Developments Limited and Drum Property Group.

Collagelands is described in the papers as "one of Scotland’s largest genuine mixed-use regeneration projects and is a place that people live, work, and socialist in".

It first received outline consent in 2007.

So far, it is made up of three housing accommodations, containing 588, 243 and 458 beds, a 1170-space multi-storey car park, a Moxy Hotel and a 90,000 sq ft office space.

The land is a historically vacant area, which, the developer argued is underused and has "isolated the East End from Glasgow city centre".

This development, however, aims to reconnect the two areas.

Glasgow City Council planning officials are reviewing the bid and a decision is expected by Friday, January 31, 2025.
