A woman says she is still in disbelief after being crowned Scotland’s best female barber.

Amy Wilson, 29, picked up the prestigious title at the Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards last month – and it is safe to say she is still in shock.

She continued: “I didn't expect to win at all.

“This is the first time I've ever done anything like this, and I was in the finals with nine other incredibly talented women. Some of them have experience in this field so I just expected them to win.

“It’s not sunk yet at all.”

“I love doing hair because it allows me to express my creativity while making my clients feel great about themselves,” Amy said.

She added: “There's nothing more rewarding than seeing someone leave the chair with a smile, feeling confident and happy.”

After fully qualifying at 19 and taking a break to study graphic design instead, Amy re-entered the hair industry in 2017 and has been shining ever since.

But despite her undeniable talent, she said her clients should also be acknowledged for her big win.

She explained: “My whole clientele has been so supportive.

“From convincing me to go ahead with the process, the voting, the finals and then after they heard the news it's been the topic of discussion since the beginning of September.

“The support I’ve received has been outstanding and I’m forever grateful for each and every one of them.”

She explained: “I’ve had more followers on my Instagram, loads of lovely messages from people in the industry and I've even had a few people asking if I'd assist on photoshoots.

“I even had a job offer. I'm so grateful.”

She added: “I've met a few people in the industry since the awards who have motivated me to keep pushing myself into new things.

“I'd love to go to more hair shows, more photoshoots and I'd love to keep putting myself out of my comfort zone and create new looks I've never tried before.”
