A man kicked off and threatened to "f****** cause it" at a Glasgow Sainsbury's.

Daryl Mooney entered the supermarket on Argyle Street at 9am on July 16 this year.

He was intoxicated and caught the attention of the security staff, who followed him around the store.

When he realised this, the 33-year-old became hostile.

He told the security guard: “F***off or I am going to f****** cause it”.

Then, he turned to a member of the public and said: “I am going to batter you”.

He was led outside, where he continued to be aggressive, making threats.

Police were alerted and found Mooney nearby. He was arrested and taken to London Road police station.

On the way there, he threatened to assault officers. He said: "I will stick the dirt into your eyebrow.”

He was irate and hostile, shouting and swearing as he was cautioned and charged.

Mooney, of Coatbridge, appeared in Glasgow Sheriff Court this week from prison after he pleaded guilty to the offence.

His lawyer said: "He pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity. He has a long-standing drug habit.

"He does not have any support or accommodation. He goes back to his drug use whenever he is released from prison, it’s a similar pattern of offending but he is keen to tackle this.

"Now that he is sober, he realises his issues. He accepted his behaviour and understands it was unacceptable.

"He is currently in custody and understands he will receive a further jail sentence. He is keen to comply."

Sheriff Marey Shields remarked: "He is a mature man and he knows the judicial and prison systems."

Sentence was deferred until Mooney's expected release date and for a report assessing his suitability for the drug court.
