A bid to build student housing on the site of a former Glasgow church was approved - despite objections.

Permission was given to create student accommodation at the corner of Kelbourne Street and Queen Margaret Drive.

The North Kelvinside building will be five to seven stories tall and contain 134 beds, along with a gym, two roof terraces, a games room and cycle parking.

Applicant Kelvin Properties Ltd originally proposed to build 10 homes on the plot, however, this was changed in December last year, after the "shortage of student accommodation dramatically increased".

The flats will be managed by student home operator This Is Fresh.

This site, at 10 Kelbourne Street, is on land which has been unused since the demolition of a church in 2014.

Documents say it will "seamlessly blend" into the area.

Despite this, the plan received significant backlash from the local community, including 46 objections.

North Kelvin Community Council voiced concerns about the height of the building,  trees being cut down, flood risk, anti-social behaviour and increased traffic.

There were also 11 supporting comments submitted, saying the development would create a vibrant community, provide a boost for businesses and help with the passive surveillance of the playpark next to it.
