A Southside sports centre will be leased to a nearby charity organisation for a 25-year period while providing the community with access to recreational and sports programmes.
Members of the contracts and property committee have approved the terms provisionally agreed for the lease of Nethercraigs Sports Complex to Pollok United SCIO through the People Make Glasgow Communities programme.
The indoor facilities at Nethercraigs are owned by the city council and operated by Glasgow Life while the outdoor sports facilities are currently operated via Pollok United (Pollok).
Pollok have been delivering football, aerobic exercise, cycling and educational and charitable activities since 2006 and managing the outdoor facilities at the Club since October 2020 as part of a Glasgow Life Community Activation Pilot.
During the contracts and property committee questions were raised about the range of programmes available for the community.
Councillor Holly Bruce said: “Pollok United are very keen for the local community to be part of the revision of this site going forward so is there any more detail on that and what that would look like in practice.”
A council officer responded: “Pollok United are absolutely committed to providing as much local community access as possible and provide a range of recreational programmes, training and a host of different sports that are all welcome to the local community.
“They have engaged really widely with the community and are committed to providing community access at all times.”
The lease was agreed unanimously by members.
