A hotel in Bellshill may increase its accommodation capacity by converting a former restaurant into extra rooms if the project is approved by councillors.
North Lanarkshire Council has received a planning application concerning the Premier Inn in Belziehill Road, which proposes the restaurant conversion in order to create 16 new rooms for guests.
The revamp would also involve building a new breakfast room serving morning meals although the Brewers Fayre, which closed in July and is one of 112 targeted for conversion into hotel expansions. Premier Inn and Brewers Fayre are two of several brands owned by the Whitbread group.
Whitbread is currently in the process of selling or converting one-third of its Brewers Fayre and Beefeater pubs in favour of expanding its budget hotels.
A traffic consultation report submitted alongside the application claims that the overall effect of the proposed change would be unlikely to increase the number of people travelling to the location.
