A teen is fighting for his life after being hit by a car in Glasgow.

The 18-year-old was walking alone on Maryhill Road near Dalsholm Road in the north of the city on Saturday evening.

He was struck by a Mercedes E220 vehicle which was travelling westbound at around 7.40pm.

Emergency crews raced to the scene and the young man was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Medical staff say he is in a critical condition.

Meanwhile, the 41-year-old driver of the Mercedes and his passengers were not injured.

Officers closed the road for around seven and a half hours, reopening it at 3.35am.

Constable Scott MacKenzie from the Road Policing Unit Greater Glasgow Division is now urging anyone with dashcam footage or any possible witnesses to get in touch with the police.

“This can be quite a busy junction and so we would ask anyone who was in the area, who has not yet spoken to officers but believes they may have information that could help our enquiry, to contact us.

“We would also be interested in any dashcam footage from the road at the time.

“Information can be passed to officers via 101. Please quote incident number 3162 of Saturday, October 12, 2024 when calling.”

The road was closed northbound for approximately seven and a half hours, opening at 3.35am on Sunday morning.
