A busy road in Glasgow is set to close for around five weeks.

Bankhead Road in the city's Carmunnock will be shut from next Monday, October 21 to upgrade the water network in the area.

Scottish Water says the closure will enable work to reduce the chances of pipes bursting and ensure that residents can continue to have clear, fresh drinking water.

Temporary traffic management will be in place on Bankhead Road for the duration of the work.

During working hours, which will be 8am to 5pm from Monday to Friday, a convoy system will be in place so residents can get access to and from their homes.

Outwith working hours, three-way traffic lights will be in place on Bankhead Road and its junction with Busby Road.

Essential access for emergency vehicles and pedestrian access to residential properties will be maintained.

Scottish Water will also use weekend working opportunities where possible.

Work will be carried out by the firm’s alliance partner, Clancy Docwra.

Scottish Water has thanked residents and road users for their cooperation and understanding during these essential works.
