A travel warning has been issued ahead of a big event in Glasgow this evening.

Traffic Scotland has warned footy fans travelling to Scotland's match at Hampden Park at 7.45pm tonight (Tuesday, October 15) to 'expect' traffic to be 'heavier on the M8 and M74' motorways.

Due to this, the road firm is urging fans to 'arrive on time and plan ahead'.

The game will see Scotland's national team take on Portugal as part of their UEFA Nations League campaign.

(Image: Newsquest) It comes after ScotRail also issued a warning to football fans heading to the match.

The rail firm has warned fans to 'allow additional time for travel' as queuing systems will be in place at Glasgow Central before the game and at Mount Florida, the closest station to Hampden, after the final whistle.

Meanwhile, the train operator has confirmed additional services will be operating between Glasgow Central and Mount Florida both before and after the match.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail Customer Operations Director, said: “ScotRail is looking forward to helping fans travel to Hampden to cheer on their side in the latest fixture in the UEFA Nations League.

“We’ll be doing all we can to help you travel to the match by rail, with extra services operating to and from Mount Florida both before and after the match.

"Queuing systems will be in place, so please allow additional time for travel, and we will have extra staff on hand to assist you.

“Buying your return tickets in advance through our mTicket system on the ScotRail app will reduce your need to queue, and help your journey run smoothly.”
