A rare and highly sought-after bottle of whisky has travelled over 7000 miles to star in an auction in Glasgow.

This bottle of Macallan 50-Year-Old Anniversary Malt was originally purchased in 1986 by David Baba, a collector from Hawaii.

He asked his friend and fellow whisky aficionado Glen Young to travel to a Christie's auction in Edinburgh to secure the bottle, which was the oldest Macallan on the market at the time.

Now that Baba has passed, his family has decided to bring this remarkable whisky back to Scotland to sell it at McTear’s in Glasgow.

"This bottle’s journey from Hawaii to McTear’s is a testament to the auction house’s international reputation for selling the world’s finest whisky.

"We are delighted to offer the 50-year-old for sale, and fully expect interest to continue to build among whisky enthusiasts across the globe in the run-up to the auction.”

Its first sale in 1986 set a record for the most expensive bottle of whisky at auction at the time, and its return to the auction stage nearly 40 years later is generating great excitement among collectors.

In addition to the Macallan, the auction will include over 240 lots of rare whisky from distilleries including Lagavulin, Springbank, Bowmore, Ardbeg and Tomatin.
