A man, woman, and two children from Glasgow died after being involved in a head-on crash with a car driving down the wrong side of the M6, police have revealed.

Cops were called to the incident past Tebay Services on the road at 4.04pm on Tuesday, October 15, following a report of a Skoda travelling southbound on the northbound carriageway.

However, while emergency crews were on route further calls were received that the car had been involved in a head-on collision with a Toyota.

Sadly, the driver of the Skoda, a 40-year-old man from Cambridgeshire was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Meanwhile, the driver of the Toyota, a 42-year-old man, and a 33-year-old woman, and two boys aged 15 and seven, all from Glasgow, were also tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

(Image: Traffic Camera) Additionally, a fourth person in the Toyota, a boy aged seven also from Glasgow, was rushed to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

Medics have said he remains in a serious condition.

The force revealed that the formal identification of those involved has not yet taken place.

However, they have said the families of those involved in the crash are being supported by specially trained officers.

Meanwhile, cops have thanked the members of the public who assisted at the scene.

An investigation into the fatal collision is now underway and officers are urging anyone with information on it to come forward.
