Councillors have unanimously agreed to award planning permission for a 100-unit social housing development in Coatbridge.
North Lanarkshire Council’s planning committee backed the local authority’s plans to increase housing stock for tenants with the mixed development, comprised of two storey houses, bungalows, cottage flats and flats, at Dunottar Avenue in the town’s Shawhead area.
The site is currently occupied by former council housing which is being demolished to make way for the new buildings.
Vehicle access to the new housing will be from Dunottar Avenue to the south and Burleigh Place to the north, both of which will be linked by a central footpath for pedestrians. The development will also feature a multi use games area as well as another play area for children.
Parking spaces will be allocated from 1.5 spaces per flat up to three for the larger dwellings, creating a total of 33 spaces.
The council received no objections in relation to its proposals and planning officers recommended granting the application subject to various conditions. The planning committee accepted this without debate.
