North Lanarkshire Council’s planning committee has given the go-ahead for a housing development to be constructed in Muirhead.
Councillors unanimously approved an application from Ambassador Partnership Homes to build on vacant land west of Potassels Road, subject to a lengthy list of conditions including several measures which will be required to prepare the site before construction can begin.
The housing, in the form of two storey three and four bedroomed houses, will comprise 23 terraced homes, four semi-detached and four detached dwellings in traditional brick.
Twelve objections were received in relation to this application, including one from local elected member Councillor John McLaren. Objectors were concerned about potential flood risk, putting additional pressure on local schools and healthcare services, noise from the A80, road safety and various other issues.
However the objections were not supported by the council’s staff or statutory consultees, with no formal objections being raised. The developers will also have to make a financial contribution to be invested into local education.
The application was therefore recommended for approval, subject to the various conditions and a financial settlement with the council to cover such obligations as affordable housing provision and play services.
