Proposals to transform a fifth floor city centre office into a language school have been submitted to Glasgow City Council’s planning department.
Live Language was established in 2002 and has been teaching students from across the world for more than 20 years.
They now have their eyes on a “prime location” on 20 Buchanan Street – a B listed building in the central conservation area.
The organisation based in Glasgow offers lessons in English, Spanish, Italian and even Japanese to help people working, and travelling abroad as well as those who want to explore other cultures.
The proposed development is for the change of use of the fifth floor of the corner building on Buchanan Street which will help Live Language build on their mission to be the best language provider in Scotland and enrich people’s lives by providing education outside of lecture style lessons.

The recently refurbished suite provides modern facilities including male and female toilets, an accessible toilet, shower and kitchen.
The open plan area means the applicant can subdivide the floor to provide meeting areas and breakout rooms – with alterations being described as “minimal”.
Internal works will also include forming six new classrooms, one meeting room, one office and one tea room but no external alterations have been proposed.
Other levels of the building are already occupied with Sword IT Solutions Ltd situated on the third floor and Dog Consultancy on the sixth. The fourth floor is currently under offer.
The applicant asks that there be no restrictions on opening hours of the school given its nature, low amenity impacts, – similar to other nearby city centre offices.
Should the council decide restrictions on operation hours are needed, Live Language has asked for discussions to take place in advance of any decisions to allow some flexibility with morning and evening classes.
A decision will be made in due course.
