The blaze was later extinguished by firefighters and the car was later written off.

It was deemed that the fire was "wilful" as there were traces of accelerant that was used.

Prosecutor Victoria Keel said: "A Nike Air Max trainer and a fuel canister were found close to the fire.

"Campbell's DNA was present on the trainer and his fingerprints were found on the fuel canister.

"Campbell was traced to his home where he was arrested."

It was stated that Mr Elliot's insurance paid out £10,000 which went to a new car however his insurance premiums have risen.

Campbell, of the city's Easterhouse, pleaded guilty to wilful fire-raising.

The matter was deferred pending background reports until next month by Sheriff Iain Fleming who granted him bail.

The sheriff said: "Don't misunderstand the position, these are serious matters."
