Four people, including two youngsters, were arrested after reports of a break-in at a city centre student block.

Xenia Students' Jamaica Street residence was yesterday morning swarming with cops who were called after the incident.

A source from the building claimed there have been several similar incidents this year.

They said: "From February this year, we have been having these kids, younger and older teens breaking into the residence and wrecking the place.

"They caused £55,000 worth of damage.

"They have terrorised, attacked students, kicked doors open, broke into rooms, trashed the place, broke into a maintenance cupboard, stole items."

Police Scotland has confirmed that they were alerted to the address on at least one other occasion.

Xenia Students is a large UK-based student housing provider, with several Glasgow properties, including on Bath Street and St Andrews Street.

They offer a range of rooms, the prices of which go up to £255 per week or £1020 per month.

A force spokesperson said: "Around 8.40am on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 officers were called to a report of a housebreaking on Jamaica Street, Glasgow.

"Officers attended and two male youths, aged 15 and 17, and two men, aged 18, and 21 were charged in connection.

"A 22-year-old man was also arrested and charged in connection with an outstanding offence. They will all be reported to the Procurator Fiscal."
