An angry dad chased his daughter's ex-boyfriend with a hammer and damaged his car when he came to pick up his things.

Jack McColl went to a Pollok address at 2pm on July 15 last year, to gather his belongings following a breakup with his girlfriend.

In a text, she told him the items would be outside.

When Mr McColl arrived, he heard shouting and swearing from Mark Kendal, his former partner's father.

He shouted: "Bawbag, the first chance I get, you're getting it".

Mr McColl continued to collect his things when Kendal appeared with a hammer.

The dad walked towards Mr McColl, who moved back towards his car but Kendal followed him, swinging the hammer in his direction.

Mr McColl was fearful and kept backing away.

Kenddal hit the front of his car as well as the headlight with the hammer, causing a dent.

He followed Mr McColl around the car with the weapon, then smashed two windows on the vehicle while shouting.

After this, Kendal went back to his own property.

Mr McColl finished picking up his belongings. Police were called, Kendal was traced and arrested, to which he replied: "I know, I did it, I don't give a f***".

The 50-year-old appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court earlier this week after he pleaded guilty to the offence.

The court heard the estimated damage was £1000.

Kendal's solicitor said: "He has never been of poor behaviour. There was a breakup between the man and his daughter. He was very upset about how this man treated his daughter.

"He was on an emotional rollercoaster. This man said he was going to come around with a team of his friends.

"There was another man there, who did not provide a statement. He ought not to behave how he did and he does accept that.

"He conveys remorse and regret. He has been married for 19 years and has three daughters. He does accept that this is the wrong way to go about things."

Sheriff Jonathan Guy told Kendal: "You pleaded guilty after a trial started and I watched the video, which set out appalling behaviour on your part.

"If it wasn’t for your age and lack of previous convictions, I would send you to jail. It is also to your credit that you have shown some remorse."

Kendal was tagged for five months, forcing him to stay at his home between 7pm and 7am.

He was also ordered to pay £300 compensation to Jack McColl.
