Emergency services raced to the scene where a man fell into the canal in Knightswood. 

The alarm was raised at around 10.30pm on Sunday that a person had fallen into the Forth and Clyde canal near Rotherwood Avenue.

Cops confirmed that they had been called and attended and a man was rushed to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital to be treated. 

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.30pm on Sunday, November 3, 2024, police received a report of a man falling into the canal in the Rotherwood Avenue area of Glasgow.

"Emergency services attended and the man was conveyed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.”

Reports on social media told of a significant emergency services presence near the canal and near Westerton train station. 

One person said: "What's happening, police are all up the canal?"

Another wrote: "I saw the fire engines and ambulance passing."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.32pm on Sunday, November 3, to reports of a person in the water at Rotherwood Avenue, Knightswood.

“Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances and two water rescue boats to the area.

“The casualty was removed from the water prior to our arrival and was transported to hospital.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”

The Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 22:46 on Sunday, November 3 to attend an incident on Rotherwood Avenue, Glasgow.

"We dispatched one ambulance and two special operations response teams (SORT) to the scene. One patient was transported to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.”
