Residents have shared their concerns about the relocation of a Glasgow community centre.

The council is planning to move services out of Maryhill Community Hub next year to allow work to be carried out.

It is understood that temporarily, tenants will be placed elsewhere before moving to a new site.

However, members of the Wyndford Residents Union say they are worried that the council will not stay true to its word and leave the North Glasgow area without the vital space.

"It's about ensuring the community is part of the process and we are not kicked out because of budgetary constraints.

"This doesn't guarantee that the hub will be replaced. There is too much ambiguity.

"Any future council might decide they don't have the money to fulfil this obligation."

With this, they say, the union will be able to take the council to court if they fail to make good on the promise.

Glasgow City Council, however, said the plan is in place for the replacement and officials are working with local groups to create a long-term solution.

It added that the move to a temporary location is essential for the upgrade.

Located on Wyndford Road, the building is home to several activities, groups and organisations such as Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland and North United Communities.

The Wyndford Residents Union said it is a well-used premises that provides a much-needed space for locals.

"Discussions are ongoing with all stakeholders in the options around longer-term solutions to the delivery of the services from the hub.

"We will continue to engage with all Hub users, tenants, leaseholders and other stakeholders once the plans for the temporary hub are finalised, and will give these people and organisations reasonable notice of the transfer date.”
