Lorraine Kelly has shared her sadness as she mourns the loss of an iconic Glasgow shop which closed after 138 years.

Tam Shepherds Trick Shop recently confirmed that November 9 was their last day at their Queen Street unit.

The business - which sells magic, jokes, tricks, and costumes - has occupied the same space in the city centre since it was first opened in 1886.

It came as a shock to many Glaswegians who have shopped at Tam Shepherds for generations, and one local to weigh in on the news was telly host Lorraine Kelly.

The presenter, who was born in the Gorbals and grew up in Bridgeton, lamented the loss of the store which she called a 'big part of my childhood'.

She reminisced on making trips to the 'toon' on the bus and paying a visit to the shop to spend her pocket money.

Lorraine wrote: "Nooooooo Tam Shepherds is to close!!

"Such a big part of my childhood - every trip into “toon” on the bus from Brigton [sic] wasn’t complete without a visit to Tam’s to spend my pocket money - you can still visit the online shop but this is the end of an era. So sad."

The decision comes after it was confirmed the building will be redeveloped into a 197-bed student accommodation block.

Its existing structure will be pulled down, and while a retail unit will remain on the ground floor level, the team at Tam Shepherds felt the new plans were 'not sustainable' for their business.

It was taken over by Roy Walton and his wife Jean when they asked to look after the shop until a new manager could be found.

However, Roy loved the role so much that he quit his job and began working there permanently from 1969 until his retirement in 2019.
