Tributes have flocked in for a beloved dad who tragically died after a crash in Renfrewshire.

Gary Sim passed away following a single-vehicle collision in Johnstone.

Police were called to the crash on Beith Road in the town on Saturday, November 9.

Officers were alerted to the incident at around 2am. Emergency crews then raced to the scene.

We previously reported how cops said the car involved in the crash caught fire, however, it was put out by firefighters from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

After that, the 53-year-old, who was from the local area, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he was sadly pronounced dead.

Following his death, tributes have poured in for the much-loved father on social media.

In a post, his son said: "I love you Dad, you were my best friend. I need you back."

Another person said: "RIP Gary. Rest easy. Fly high. Can't believe you're gone."

A third added: "RIP Gary. You were one of the good ones."

Meanwhile, a fundraiser has also been set up to help Gary's family with his funeral costs.

The GoFundMe page reads: "Hey everyone, I'm setting up this GoFundMe page due to the heartbreak of our closest friends losing their Dad. 

"We are trying to offer help with funeral costs at this difficult time. On the early hours of Saturday morning 'Oor Gary Sim' sadly passed away. He was a loving dad to Chelsea, Caitlin, Wee Gary, Chandler, and Chloe, as well as a papa, brother, partner, and stepdad.

"Gary was the nicest person with the biggest heart, he would have done anything for anyone and I mean that from the bottom of my own heart.

"He was always helping people by doing his ‘wee jobs’ as he would say.

"Saying that I would like to ask the community to please pull together in the memory of Gary and to help the family, any amount big or small will help to take a small amount of pressure off at this terrible time for the family and it would be greatly appreciated."

The road was closed for investigations following the crash and reopened at around 7.50am on Sunday, November 10.

An investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

Road Policing Constable Stewart Brown said: “Our thoughts are with Gary’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time and we continue to offer them support as our enquires progress.

 “I’d like to thank the local community for their patience while the road was closed and also to members of the public who provided information.”
