A new partnership is set to provide 35 homes for low-income families in Glasgow and neighbouring areas.

Homes for Good, a social enterprise lettings agency, has teamed up with Glasgow Credit Union to provide sustainable and high-quality housing.

The credit union has given a £2.4 million corporate loan to Homes for Good.

This investment will be used to buy up to 35 homes for families, couples, and individuals in Glasgow, North Ayrshire, and Renfrewshire.

The loan will also support the Broomton Road project in North Glasgow which aims to transform four derelict properties back into use as family homes and revitalise adjacent retail space and land for community use.

Susan Aktemel, founder of Homes for Good, said: “Securing the loan with Glasgow Credit Union marks a step forward in our vision to provide high quality properties in Glasgow for people on lower incomes who would otherwise struggle to access homes.

"Our purpose is to create safe, affordable, beautiful homes for people who need them."

Homes for Good has been addressing housing inequality in Scotland's private rented sector for more than a decade, raising more than £23 million to deliver over 340 homes.

David Ross, chief executive officer of Glasgow Credit Union, said: "We are passionate about investing in organisations that improve lives and strengthen communities.

"This partnership with Homes for Good is a perfect example of how financial sustainability and social benefit can go hand in hand.

"We are proud to support Homes for Good’s efforts to provide good calibre housing to those who need it most.

"We hope this first step in the partnership is just the beginning, and that it demonstrates to other lenders in the market that social impact doesn’t have to come at the price of fair financial return."
